Dashboard guide
Search and open
Find saved content with Free search filters, save Pro Smart Views, reuse encrypted recent searches, or search the web.
Search saved content, the web, or an address
The command bar at the top of the dashboard helps you search the web or open an address. The library search in All items finds matching bookmarks, documents, tasks, and saved articles while you type.
- 1
Choose a search engine
Select Bing, Brave, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Google, Qwant, or Yahoo. FavLock remembers your choice. - 2
Enter a query or URL
FavLock shows matching bookmarks and documents locally as you type. Recent searches also appear as autocomplete suggestions. - 3
Search the web when you choose
Select Search web to submit the current value. A recognizable address opens directly; other text is sent to the chosen search engine in a new tab. - 4
Continue with a clear field
After submission, FavLock saves the value according to your search-history setting and clears the command bar.
For current export and browser-to-browser import paths, see the Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge bookmark transfer guide.
Control encrypted search history
FavLock keeps at most 10 unique recent searches for autocomplete. Search history is encrypted with your FavLock key before it is stored.

Search your saved content
By default, library search matches item names, bookmark URLs, tags, and collections. Free also lets you choose a field and combine filters. Pro additionally searches decrypted document, task, and saved article text locally on your device.
- 1
Choose what to search
Open Filters beneath library search, then choose All fields, Item name, URL, Tag name, or Collection name. A selected field limits where your words can match. - 2
Narrow the results
Filter by item type, an exact tag or collection, and favorite bookmarks. Filters work together with typed words, or on their own when the search field is empty. - 3
Return to the full library
Clear the search text and select Clear filters. Search web remains a separate action.
The first nine bookmark matches show their shortcut beside the Bookmark label. Numbered shortcuts are enabled by default; open Settings → Preferences to turn them off or back on for your account.
Saved Smart Views
Save a library search and its filters as a shortcut that stays in your sidebar.
- 1
Set up a search
Enter search words, choose filters, or combine both. Select Save Smart View above the filter panel. - 2
Make it yours
Give the view a name, icon, and color. Its search words, filters, and name are encrypted before they are saved. - 3
Return to live results
Open the view from the sidebar to see matching items and a count that updates as your library changes. You can edit its name, icon, or color, or remove the view when you no longer need it.
Returning browsers keep the existing library cache available while FavLock applies recent changes in the background. Incremental change markers are retained for seven days; a browser returning after that window safely rebuilds its local cache.
Get better matches
- Search a distinctive word from the title rather than the entire title.
- Enter a domain such as github.com to find links from that site.
- Search a tag or collection name to find related bookmarks without opening that view first.
- If the index reports an error, use Retry indexing below the search field.
